“Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so,” are the words of one of the first songs I learned. From my earliest memories, I can recall hearing Bible choruses sung in Sunday School and at home. The Bible, a very special book that contains a message from God to us, was read every day in our home.

At a very early age, I learned how Jesus not only loves me, but how He also showed that He loved me. I learned that He came from way up in heaven where He lived, down to earth where we live to die on the cross. In answer to my question, “Why did He have to do that?” I was shown from the Bible in Romans 3:23, “All have sinned”. I found out that sin was disobeying God, and wanting to go my own way. Even as a child I knew that was me. My parents explained that God looks so very seriously at sin, that Jesus had to die and shed His blood so that God could forgive those who trust Jesus, and then He puts their sins away.

As soon as I understood I was a sinner, and that Jesus had died so I could have my sins taken away, I wanted to accept Him as my Saviour. My Dad showed me verses from the Bible to help me find the Saviour. One was Acts 16:31, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” At first I tried hard to believe, but nothing happened. Then I forgot all about believing, and was thinking of Jesus dying on the cross, and that He loved me enough to die for me. “Why,” I said, “That’s it! He did it for me! Thank you, Lord Jesus for dying for me. I do accept you right now.” I was so very happy.

Since that I’ve learned a lot more about God’s salvation, and appreciate it more and more. I found out that I not only have my sins forgiven, but God has given me eternal life, so I can enjoy what God enjoys now and then go to be with Him forever. I have come to know such a special Friend, who is with me at all times, and brings such peace, joy and purpose in living that I so enjoy sharing this good news from God’s Word with everyone.

You, too, can have all the blessings God promises in the Bible to those who trust Jesus as Saviour, and find out that He is a “Friend, who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24.
